Slavomír Durkaj is a student at the Faculty of Arts and Multimedia of Technical University in Košice in the Studio of Contemporary Painting led by Professor Adam Szentpétery. In his paintings, he emphasizes the phenomenon of the 21st century - a conflict of nature with modern civilization. He exhibited at various expositions in Slovakia.
Q: What was the ultimate breakthrough moment in your career?
A: It was a true breakthrough moment in my life; I started to like the kind of art I used to despise and I became interested in art in general. It happened when I got sick.
Q: Why do you think people should collect contemporary art, namely yours?
A: People collect contemporary art for many reasons. I would collect art that fascinates me; art that I like, art that makes me think; or the kind of art that somehow personally affects me.

Q: If you had an opportunity to talk to a deceased artist, who would it be and what would you ask him/her?
A: I would ask Picasso whether he is still a communist. And I would ask him to draw something in those 10 minutes. And if he said he was no longer a communist, I would let Dalí know.
